Karen Horton School of Dance

Karen Horton School of Dance, located at 3517 Hixson Pike in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has been providing top-notch dance education for over 40 years. The school, opened in 1969, features three studios and offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, Irish step, hip hop, acro, and pointe. We are DMA certified and classes are available for children as young as 3 and adults as old as 103. Every class has the chance to perform in the annual recital. Performances, Rehearsals, & Important Dates:

April 23, 2022: Everyone should receive an email about recital on May 7 this week. If you have questions about what show you're in, the program, or tickets, please stop by the desk during your next class. 

August 8, 2021: If you missed registration, you can still join us. March 23, 2020: The studio is remaining closed this week to allow for social distancing to continue. Since the studio bills every four weeks, we will adjust everyone's invoice for Payment 7 to reflect three weeks of classes instead of four. We won't begin billing for Payment 8 until the studio reopens. 

March 16, 2020: The studio is closed this week for Spring Break. With the fluid nature of developments with the COVID-19 Virus, the studio will wait to determine a date for reopening. We'll be making decisions on a week by week basis. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. 

December 11, 2019: The studio is open for classes today.

December 6, 2019: Be sure to pick up your Winter Concert information and costumes at the studio this week. 

November 20, 2019: April's adult jazz at 6:30 will not meet today. 

May 31, 2019: Our June Dance Camp is full. We're considering adding a second week of camp July 15-19. If interested, please call or email us. (423) 875-6720 [email protected] We'd offer the discounted $175 rate if registered and paid by June 30.

May 4, 2019: Be sure to pick up your dress rehearsal schedule this week during class. If you haven't picked up the recital letter, DVD order forms, and/or flower order forms, they should be picked up this week as well.

March 19, 2018: Since the news is forecasting severe storms with a threat of tornadoes, the studio will be closed this afternoon and evening for classes. Make up classed will be on Monday, May 14, at regular class time. 

January 16, 2018: Since the news is forecasting snow showers creating treacherous road conditions for the afternoon and evening, the studio will be closed today. Check with your instructor next week about make up times.

December 8, 2017: Be sure to pick up your student pass this week at the studio for the Winter Concert. If your class ordered a costume or dance wear for the show, be sure to pick that up too. Tickets are also available to purchase or can be purchased at the door.

August 8, 2017: We received some great feedback at registration and have added a Tuesday Beginning Jazz class for older kids and a Saturday Mom & Me class. Check out our new schedule on our site or by downloading the PDF. 

August 4, 2017: We are so excited for the new dance year to begin! Don't forget that we have registration for fall classes tomorrow and Monday. We have updated our schedule and have included a PDF for your convenience. We're working on making our website more mobile friendly, but in the mean time, the PDF is accessible for everyone, no matter what device you're on.

June 13, 2017: We hope you're all having a fantastic summer so far! Summer classes begin this week. There's still time to sign up, or just drop by for the class you'd like to take. We're also still taking students for dance camp. Spots are going pretty quickly though! Remember that if you register by June 30th, you save $25. We also do sibling discounts.

If your child is a bunhead, you might also want to consider signing up for our ballet intensive. It's geared toward middle and high school students who are serious about ballet. February 10, 2017: We have updated our Dance Camp page to include dates for this summer. We hope you'll join us in July!

January 19, 2017: We have just upgraded to a newer version of our website, so please be patient as we work out any kinks or any problems caused by this. Thanks!

October 17, 2016: We are doing two Christmas parades this year. Red Bank is on December 3rd at 11:00 am, and Soddy is on December 4th (time TBD). We have posted sign up sheets in the lobby. For Red Bank, students ages 2-5 can ride in the trailer, and students ages 6 and up will march. For Soddy, we will only have marchers (no one under 6). Students will learn an easy parade routine in class, and we have also uploaded a video here so that parents can help their children practice at home. We could also use some volunteers to help carry our KHSD banner, pull our music, and wrangle kids. We would love to have everyone participate!

October 11, 2016: We are OPEN this week. The studio doesn't have a fall break. Be on the look out for information about performances and parades being mailed out the end of this week.

August 15, 2016: Registration went so well! In fact, we had so many sign up for our Thursday Combined 3 class that we had to mark it full. We still have spots in our Saturday Combined 3, and we're also starting a waiting list in case we have enough interest in another Combined 3 class on a week day. We also added another Combined 1 class to our schedule on Wednesday evenings.
